Valencia hosts the season-ending MotoGP race and has embraced Formula E racing on its street circuit. The permanent circuit's amphitheatre design gives spectators views of nearly the entire track.
Circuit Ricardo Tormo is a permanent racing circuit, located in Cheste, Valencia. Drivers cover 4.005 km (2.489 miles) and 14 corners each lap, run clockwise.
The circuit opened in 1999 and holds FIA Grade 2 licensing. It appears on the MotoGP, Formula E and Road Course calendars. Around 165,000 spectators can attend.
The Valencian government built the circuit at Cheste to serve as the centre of the region's motorsport industry and a training base for young Spanish riders and drivers. Construction started in 1998 and it opened on 19 September 1999, with a 4 km lap of fourteen corners — nine left, five right — and an 876-metre main straight.
It was named for Ricardo Tormo, the Valencian rider who won two 50cc world championships and died of leukaemia in December 1998, aged 46, while the circuit was being built. The naming was proposed by his friends Jorge Martínez Aspar and Ángel Nieto. Its bowl shape puts most of the lap in view of the grandstands, and for many years it closed the MotoGP season, which made it the place championships were settled.
