Darlington is asymmetric — its two ends have different radii, a consequence of the land it was built on in 1950 — so a car cannot be set up to suit both. Drivers run right up against the outer wall through the corners, and the resulting scrape down the right side is known locally as the Darlington Stripe, worn more as evidence than as embarrassment.
