Homestead's corners are banked progressively — steeper the higher you go — which rewards drivers willing to run right against the outside wall where the banking is greatest and the surface most worn. As a race develops the preferred line moves upward, and the fastest way round late in a run is often the least comfortable.
That quality has made it a long-standing favourite among drivers, and it hosted the championship finale for many years.
