Buddh International Circuit is a permanent racing circuit in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The lap measures 5.125 km (3.185 miles) across 16 corners, run clockwise.
It opened in 2011 and holds FIA Grade 1 licensing. It hosts Formula 1. Capacity is around 110,000 spectators.
The circuit was built by the Jaypee Group at Greater Noida, designed by Hermann Tilke over 5.125 km and sixteen turns, and inaugurated in September 2011. The first Indian Grand Prix followed on 30 October — the first Formula 1 race held on the subcontinent — and Sebastian Vettel won it from pole having led every lap.
It lasted three years. Vettel won all three races, and then the event collapsed not on merit but on tax: the Uttar Pradesh government's exemption from entertainment and luxury duty was challenged, Indian authorities classified the race as entertainment rather than sport, and the resulting dispute made the economics impossible. India has not held a Grand Prix since. The circuit remains in use for domestic racing and has hosted MotoGP.
