A stunning twilight circuit on Yas Island that hosts the season-ending F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The track weaves around a marina and under the iconic Yas Hotel, racing from daylight into the desert night.
Yas Marina Circuit is a permanent racing circuit in Abu Dhabi. The lap measures 5.281 km (3.281 miles) across 16 corners, run anti-clockwise.
It opened in 2009 and holds FIA Grade 1 licensing. Series racing here include Formula 1 and GT. Capacity is around 60,000 spectators.
Ground was broken on Yas Island in May 2007 and the circuit was certified in October 2009, having taken some 14,000 workers and more than 35 million man-hours. The reported cost, above a billion dollars, makes it the most expensive Formula 1 circuit ever built.
The first Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, in 2009, started at five in the afternoon so the race began in daylight and finished under lights — the first time Formula 1 had run a transition from day to night. The layout drew steady criticism for producing dull races, and in the summer of 2021 it was reworked: several slow corners were removed or opened out, cutting roughly thirteen seconds from the lap. The circuit runs partly under the Yas Viceroy hotel, which straddles the track.
